R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the sole Indian representatives selected for the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2023

ICC, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, unveiled the Men’s Test team of the year for 2023, dominated by Australian players who secured victory in the World Test Championship 2023.

The ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year, led by Australia’s Pat Cummins, features a majority of Australian players, including WTC Final centurion Travis Head, opener Usman Khawaja, wicketkeeper Alex Carey, and fast bowler Mitchell Starc.

Usman Khawaja, the sole player to reach 1,000 Test runs in 2023, makes a consecutive appearance in the Test squad, amassing 1,210 runs at an average of 52.60, including three centuries. Other Australian representatives include Travis Head, Player of the Match in the WTC Final, and wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Dimuth Karunaratne from Sri Lanka partners with Khawaja at the top of the order, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson secures the number three batting spot, ensuring representation from five international teams in the Test team.

In the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2023, led by Rohit Sharma, India boasts six players. Among them, all-rounder spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have earned their spots. Jadeja showcased his skills in the home Test series against Australia, claiming a fifer and scoring a fifty in the Nagpur Test, and delivering a ten-wicket haul in the subsequent game. His recent performance against West Indies included seven wickets and a fifty in the two-match series away from home.

R Ashwin emerged as the leading wicket-taker for India in the Border-Gavaskar series, securing 25 wickets in four matches and earning the Player of the Series title. Additionally, he contributed significantly in the first game against West Indies with a twelve-wicket haul (5/60 and 7/71), coupled with a fifty and three wickets in the following game.
