Gautam Gambhir, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, has rejoined the franchise as mentor ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Gambhir, who led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, will work closely with head coach Chandrakant Pandit to guide the team to new heights.
“I am thrilled to be back home at KKR,” said Gambhir in a statement released by the franchise. “This team is very special to me, and I have many fond memories of my time here as captain. I am eager to contribute my experience and knowledge to help the team achieve success in the upcoming season.”
Gambhir’s return to KKR marks a new chapter in his illustrious cricket career. With Gambhir’s wealth of experience and unwavering passion for the game, KKR is poised for another successful campaign in the IPL 2024 season. The franchise’s fans are eagerly anticipating the return of their beloved captain, and the stage is set for an unforgettable season of cricket.
“I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23,” Gautam said.
