IND v ENG 2024: Virat Kohli will be absent from the initial two Tests against England owing to personal reasons
Renowned Indian batsman Virat Kohli has opted out of the initial two Tests in the five-match series against England, as confirmed by the BCCI on January 22, 2024. The series is scheduled to kick off on January 25 with the inaugural match taking place in Hyderabad.
According to the BCCI announcement, Virat Kohli made a formal request to the board for his withdrawal from the first two Tests of the upcoming Test series against England, citing personal reasons.
“Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.
The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series,” BCCI statement read.
The BCCI has emphasized that it is imperative for media and fans to honor the privacy of Virat Kohli and his family during this period and abstain from making speculations about the nature of his personal reasons.
A substitute for Virat Kohli will be announced shortly by the BCCI.
