IPL 2024: “Once I am done, you won’t see me for a while,” Virat Kohli opens up on post-retirement plans
Virat Kohli’s achievements as a cricketer are remarkable. He has significantly elevated Indian cricket through his exceptional batting and leadership over the years.
Kohli has played for India in 113 Tests, 292 ODIs, and 117 T20Is, accumulating over 26,000 international runs, including 80 centuries. As captain, he led India in 213 matches across formats, securing 135 victories. His success rate as captain is among the highest in cricket history.
Recognized as one of the finest modern-era cricketers, Kohli, at 35, is currently playing for RCB in IPL 2024, where he is the top run-scorer.
Fans and experts often wonder what drives Kohli’s relentless pursuit of runs. At RCB’s Royal Gala Dinner in Bengaluru on May 18, he addressed this curiosity.
“It’s quite simple. As a sportsman, we have an end-date to our careers. I am just working backwards. I don’t want to end my career with any regrets, thinking ‘what if I had done this.’ I want to ensure I leave no unfinished business and no regrets,” Kohli explained.
Although Kohli has generally been reserved about his retirement plans, he hinted at taking a significant break after retiring from cricket.
“Once I am done, I will be gone. You won’t see me for a while,” he said with a smile. “I want to give it everything I have until I retire, and that’s what keeps me going.”
