Yashasvi Jaiswal, the promising Indian opener, has achieved a new career-high position in the ICC Test rankings, which were updated on Wednesday (February 28), as a recognition of his outstanding performance in the ongoing Test series against England.
After contributing scores of 73 and 37 in India’s decisive five-wicket victory in the Ranchi Test, the left-handed batsman ascended three spots to secure the 12th position. This advancement sees him surpass his opening partner and captain, Rohit Sharma, who now occupies the 13th spot in the Test batter rankings.
Just a week prior, Jaiswal had surged 14 spots to attain the 15th position in the batting chart. His remarkable consistency throughout the series is evident from his accumulation of 655 runs across eight innings, boasting an impressive average of 93.57, featuring two double centuries and two half-centuries.
Star batsman Virat Kohli, who is absent from the series due to personal reasons, remains the sole Indian cricketer in the top 10 batters’ chart, holding onto the ninth position.
India’s No. 3 batsman, Shubman Gill, has seen a rise of four places to reach the 31st position in the batting rankings, reflecting his consistency in the series. Gill played a pivotal role by scoring a crucial half-century (52*) in the penultimate Test, guiding India to victory.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, the standout performer in India’s Ranchi Test triumph, has climbed 31 places to achieve a career-best ranking of 69. Jurel showcased remarkable composure under pressure in both innings, contributing scores of 90 and 39*.
New Zealand’s Kane Williamson maintains his stronghold as the No. 1 ranked Test batsman, while England’s Joe Root has moved up to the third position following his unbeaten 122* in the first innings of the Ranchi Test.
England opener Zak Crawley has also attained a career-best rating, ascending 10 spots to 17th position in the Test batters’ list after scoring 42 and 60 in Ranchi.
India’s premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, retains his No. 1 position in the Test bowler rankings despite being rested for the fourth Test. Meanwhile, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has surged 10 places to reach the joint 32nd position, achieving a new career-high ranking after his impressive four-wicket haul in the second innings against England.
