MI vs SRH: Cricket fraternity reacts as SRH defeats MI by 31 runs in absolute run fest in Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 8th match of the IPL 2024 tournament held in Hyderabad on March 27. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first, a choice that ultimately proved to be unfavorable.
Both teams engaged in a high-scoring encounter, with SRH displaying a formidable batting performance. Travis Head led the charge with a rapid 62 runs off 24 balls, featuring 9 fours and 3 sixes, while Abhishek Sharma contributed a brisk 63 runs off 23 balls, including 3 fours and 7 sixes.
Despite the dismissals of Head and Sharma, SRH maintained their momentum as Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen combined to forge an unbeaten partnership of 116 runs for the fourth wicket within a mere 9 overs.
Markram remained not out on 42 runs off 28 deliveries, striking two fours and one six, while Klaasen showcased his prowess by smashing 80 not out off 34 balls, comprising four fours and seven sixes. MI’s IPL debutant, Kwena Maphaka, endured a challenging outing, conceding 66 runs in his four overs.
SRH achieved a significant feat by surpassing the 11-year-old record for the highest team total in IPL history, previously held by RCB. RCB had set the record with a score of 263/5 in IPL 2013 against PWI in Bengaluru, a match memorable for Chris Gayle’s remarkable innings of 175*.
MI supporters anticipated a strong response, and Rohit Sharma (26) and Ishan Kishan (34) provided the desired start, accumulating 56 runs in 3.2 overs. Subsequently, Tilak Varma took charge as MI swiftly reached their 100-run mark in just 7.3 overs.
Naman Dhir contributed 30 runs, while Tilak showcased a stellar performance with 64 runs off 34 balls, featuring 2 fours and 6 sixes. However, Tilak’s dismissal proved detrimental to MI’s prospects. Captain Hardik Pandya managed 24 runs from 20 balls, while Tim David’s unbeaten 42 runs off 22 balls helped MI reach a total of 246/5 in their allotted 20 overs, narrowing the margin of defeat.
SRH emerged victorious by 31 runs, with Jaydev Unadkat and Cummins each claiming 2 wickets. Abhishek Sharma was honored as the Player of the Match.
Several records tumbled during the game, with a total of 38 sixes hit, marking a new record for any T20 match. Additionally, SRH and MI collectively amassed 523 runs, setting a new record for the highest run aggregate in a T20 game.
The cricketing community was astonished by the prolific run-scoring in the match, expressing admiration for the SRH team across various social media platforms.
