Pakistan Cricket Board suggests Lahore as venue for India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches- Report
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed that Lahore serve as India’s home base during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This event, which will be hosted by Pakistan for the first time since 2017, has been meticulously planned to ensure top-notch security for all teams, especially India.
According to a PCB source, this recommendation was included in the draft itinerary submitted to the ICC in late April. The PCB aims to provide the best possible security arrangements for the Indian team, which is why Lahore has been suggested as their base.
“Yes, Lahore has been suggested as the home base for the Indian team to reduce their traveling and to provide them with the best security arrangements,” the source confirmed to PTI.
Previously, due to security concerns, India opted out of participating in the Asia Cup in Pakistan, with their matches being relocated to Sri Lanka.
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025. While Lahore has been proposed as India’s base, Karachi and Rawalpindi have also been earmarked as additional venues. However, the draft schedule is yet to be approved by the ICC executive board.
This tournament marks Pakistan’s first major ICC event since 1996. Pakistan also hosted the entire Asia Cup in 2008 and some matches of the same event last year.
However, it remains uncertain whether the BCCI will secure government permission for the Indian team to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
In preparation for the ICC event, the PCB has announced that the Pakistan Super League will be held in April 2025. Additionally, the PCB plans to organize a tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand before the Champions Trophy.
