Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced Australia’s Pat Cummins as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2024 season on Monday, March 4.
SRH confirmed Cummins’ appointment as skipper through their official social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
“#OrangeArmy! Our new skipper Pat Cummins #IPL2024,” the franchise tweeted.

Pat Cummins was acquired by SRH for a substantial sum of INR 20.50 Crore during the auction held last December, marking one of the highest-priced signings in IPL history.
Cummins notably led Australia to victory in both the World Test Championship (WTC) and the Cricket World Cup last year, elevating his stature as a leader significantly.
It’s noteworthy that Cummins collaborates with SRH head coach Daniel Vettori, who serves as the assistant coach of the Australian men’s national cricket team.
Aiden Markram, from South Africa, served as the captain of SRH last season. However, the team’s performance was subpar, failing to qualify for the playoffs and finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins out of 14 matches.
The IPL 2024 season is scheduled to commence on March 22, with the clash between CSK and RCB at Chepauk. SRH will commence their campaign against KKR at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
