In a surprising turn of events, MS Dhoni announced his decision to step down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just before the onset of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Thursday, March 21.

The iconic captain and wicketkeeper-batsman handed over the reins of leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the forthcoming IPL 2024, commencing on March 22 with CSK facing off against RCB at Chepauk Stadium.

While the timing of this change in captaincy may catch many off guard, reports suggest that CSK had been grooming Gaikwad for leadership roles behind the scenes. Nonetheless, the five-time IPL-winning captain Dhoni will continue to play a pivotal role in CSK, both as a leader and a player.
