IPL 2024: Cricket fraternity reacts on RR defeats MI by 9 wickets; Sandeep Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal star
Rajasthan Royals (RR) continued their impressive performance in the IPL 2024 season by securing a commanding 9-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur on April 22.
MI captain Hardik Pandya opted to bat first in his milestone 100th game for the team. However, the opening pair of Rohit Sharma (6) and Ishan Kishan (0), along with Suryakumar Yadav (10) at number three, succumbed to the bowling prowess of Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma.
Despite the early setbacks, Tilak Varma (65), Nehal Wadhera (49), and Mohammad Nabi (23) stitched together valuable contributions to propel MI to a respectable total of 179/9. Sandeep Sharma starred for RR with the ball, claiming figures of 5/18, while Yuzvendra Chahal achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in IPL history.
RR quickly countered with a strong response, with openers Jos Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal forming a formidable partnership of 74 runs in just 8 overs before Piyush Chawla dismissed Buttler. However, this was the sole wicket MI could claim throughout the match.
