IPL 2024: Yuzvendra Chahal becomes first bowler to claim 200 wickets in IPL; Cricket fraternity lauds RR leg-spinner

Yuzvendra Chahal made history by becoming the first bowler to reach the milestone of 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chahal accomplished this feat during Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 22.

Needing just one wicket to achieve the landmark, Chahal reached the milestone by dismissing Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

In his initial over of the match, Chahal outfoxed Nabi with his skillful bowling, inducing a simple return catch from the batsman. This dismissal saw MI’s scorecard reading 52/4 in 7.3 overs after they were put in to bat first.

Yuzvendra Chahal commenced his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians (MI) back in 2013. After a year, he transitioned to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he remained until 2021.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Chahal was released by RCB, and Rajasthan Royals acquired him for INR 6.5 Crore. He delivered outstanding performances in the past two seasons with the inaugural IPL champions.

During IPL 2022, the wrist-spinner claimed 27 wickets, earning him the prestigious Purple Cap. In the subsequent season, IPL 2023, he secured 21 scalps. Notably, Chahal surpassed former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo’s record of 183 wickets last year to become the IPL’s leading wicket-taker.

Following his achievement of reaching 200 IPL wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal received widespread acclaim from the cricketing community on the social media platform X.
