Here is why RCB skipped practice in Ahmedabad ahead of Eliminator against RR- Report

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) chose to skip their sole practice session in Ahmedabad before their IPL 2024 Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 22. This decision sparked speculation within the cricket community.

Initially, Anandabazar Patrika reported that RCB canceled the session due to a security concern after Gujarat police apprehended four terrorists at Ahmedabad airport, raising fears for Virat Kohli’s safety.

However, India Today later clarified the actual reason for the cancellation. Sources revealed that RCB postponed their practice session due to the extreme afternoon heat. They planned to practice later but were informed that floodlights would only be available until 6:30 PM. Consequently, they decided to cancel the session on May 22 to avoid health risks for the players. There was no security threat involved.

A top source explained to India Today, “They changed the time from 2-5 PM to 4-6 PM. We informed them that floodlights were available until 6:30 PM, but due to the temperature exceeding 45 degrees, they opted to skip the practice to ensure player safety. We also offered them an indoor practice arena, but they declined due to the heat.”

RCB made a remarkable comeback in the tournament, winning six consecutive games to qualify for the Eliminator. They secured their spot by defeating CSK by 27 runs in Bengaluru.
