Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant showcased a commendable performance despite his team’s significant defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Shreyas Iyer, leading the DC side, won the toss and opted to bat first. KKR’s formidable total of 272/7 in 20 overs was fueled by Sunil Narine’s 85, Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s debut IPL score of 54, along with valuable contributions from Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26). This total marks the second-highest in IPL history, trailing only SRH’s 277 runs.
In the bowling department, Anrich Nortje took three wickets for Delhi Capitals, while Ishant Sharma claimed two.
Despite the daunting target, Tristan Stubbs (54) and Rishabh Pant (55) were the lone performers for DC against KKR’s bowling attack, as the team was eventually dismissed for 166 runs, suffering a defeat by a margin of 106 runs. Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy were the key wicket-takers for KKR, each securing three wickets.
Rishabh Pant showcased remarkable form, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes during his innings. This marked his second consecutive fifty in the IPL 2024 season. Notably, he scored 28 runs off Venkatesh Iyer in a single over, including two sixes and 4 fours.
It’s worth mentioning that Rishabh Pant returned to competitive cricket in the ongoing IPL tournament after a 14-month hiatus due to intensive rehabilitation following a severe car accident in December 2022.
His courageous performance garnered praise from the cricket community, with many expressing delight at witnessing the return of the old Rishabh Pant. Their reactions were shared on the social media platform X.
