SL v IND 2024: BCCI announces 15-member squad of India for Sri Lanka T20Is; Suryakumar Yadav to call up for captaincy
On Thursday, July 18, the BCCI selection committee announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
India will head to Sri Lanka with a nearly full-strength squad, as Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Akshar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh return to the team after being rested during the recent tour of Zimbabwe.
Shubman Gill led India’s second-string team during the Zimbabwe tour, but for the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain. Suryakumar takes over from Rohit Sharma, who recently retired from T20Is.
Following Rohit’s retirement, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also stepped away from the shortest format after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory, creating openings in the squad.
As a result, young players like Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been included. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant will serve as wicketkeepers, and the team also features power hitters such as Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. Riyan Parag, who debuted during the Zimbabwe tour, has retained his place.
Ravi Bishnoi leads the spin department, supported by Washington Sundar and Akshar Patel as spin all-rounders.
Arshdeep Singh will head the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, with Khaleel Ahmed as an additional fast-bowling option.
The T20I series between India and Sri Lanka will commence on July 27 in Pallekele.
