“You will be seeing me play for a while,” T20 WC 24 winning captain Rohit Sharma buries retirement talks at an event; fans cheer for him
India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has dismissed any rumors about his imminent retirement from cricket, indicating that he plans to continue playing for some time.
Rohit recently led India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. After the triumph, he announced his retirement from T20 internationals.
During an event in Dallas on Sunday, July 14, Rohit was asked about his plans for full retirement from international cricket.
In response, Rohit mentioned that he doesn’t plan too far ahead and still has a lot left to offer.
“I just said it. I don’t think that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while,” Rohit stated. His remark was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd at the event.
A few months ago, Rohit Sharma made it clear that he intends to continue playing cricket for a few more years and aims to win both the World Test Championship (WTC) and the World Cup with India.
“I haven’t really thought about retirement. But, I don’t know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time, so I think I am going to continue for a few more years. I really want to win the World Cup, and there is a WTC final in 2025. Hopefully, India makes it,” he said.
Rohit Sharma will now turn his attention to ODIs and Tests, with significant matches coming up in the next few months. The Indian captain may be rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka later this month.
