T20 World Cup 2024: India enters Super 8s with 7-wicket win over USA; Suryakumar Yadav stars with 50*
India secured their spot in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating the USA on June 12. The match took place at the Nassau County Cricket Ground, marking its final game before demolition.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma elected to bowl after winning the toss. For the USA, Steven Taylor (24) and Nitish Kumar (27) were the top scorers, contributing to a total of 110/8 in 20 overs. India’s Arshdeep Singh delivered an impressive performance with 4/9, supported by Hardik Pandya, who took two wickets.
Chasing the target, India faced an early setback as Saurabh Netravalkar of the USA claimed the quick wickets of Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3). Despite this, Rishabh Pant (18) and Suryakumar Yadav helped stabilize the innings. Ali Khan’s dismissal of Pant briefly offered hope to the USA.
However, Suryakumar Yadav (50*) and Shivam Dube (31*) formed a crucial unbeaten partnership of 70 runs for the fourth wicket, guiding India to victory in 18.2 overs with seven wickets remaining. Arshdeep Singh was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling figures of 4/9.
This victory ensured India’s qualification for the Super 8s, joining South Africa and Australia as the third team to advance. The cricket community widely praised the composure and skill displayed by the Indian batters on social media.
