“Let India come for Champions Trophy first”- PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi on IND v PAK bilateral series
The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has expressed a willingness to resume bilateral cricketing relations with India, but with certain conditions.
Naqvi stated that PCB would only contemplate the possibility of engaging in bilateral series with India if India agrees to send their team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next year.
Recently, on the Club Prairie podcast, Rohit praised the Pakistan team and showed keenness about the idea of competing against them in a Test series overseas, describing it as “awesome.”
When asked about this in a press conference, Naqvi responded, “If any options in this regard arise, we will consider them, but our current objective is to host the Champions Trophy and have India participate in the tournament. Right now, until the Champions Trophy, there are no available slots in our team’s packed schedule. Once they visit us first for the tournament, then we can entertain any proposal that comes before us.
India and Pakistan have not engaged in a bilateral series since 2012-13, which was when Pakistan toured India for a white-ball series. The most recent Test match between the two nations took place in 2007, and India’s last visit to Pakistan occurred in 2008 for the Asia Cup tournament.
Although India and Pakistan compete against each other in white-ball ICC tournaments, they do not participate in the ICC World Test Championship.
The likelihood of India traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy is very low. This stance was articulated by the BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who stated some time ago that India would not visit Pakistan for cricketing purposes. The Asia Cup 2023 was initially scheduled to be held in Pakistan, but due to India’s reluctance to visit the country, Pakistan only hosted four matches of the tournament, while the remaining matches, including those involving India, took place in Sri Lanka.
