Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma closes in on Pakistani player Babar Azam’s no.1 spot in latest update of ODI batting rankings by ICC
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has ascended to the second position in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings. This rise follows his impressive performance in the recent three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka.
India lost the series 2-0, with the first ODI ending in a tie. This was the first time since 1997 that India had been defeated in an ODI series by Sri Lanka.
This series had a significant effect on the ICC ODI player rankings. Rohit Sharma moved past Shubman Gill to secure the No. 2 spot in the ODI batting rankings, thanks to his 167 runs across the three matches, which included two half-centuries.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka advanced to 8th place in the rankings, bolstered by his 101 runs in the series. Shubman Gill dropped to No. 3, while Virat Kohli maintained his position at No. 4. The top position in the ICC ODI batting rankings is still held by Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Recent updates to the Test player rankings reflect changes after the draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad. South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, achieved a new career-high rating, climbing two positions to 16th, following his innings of 86 and an unbeaten 15.
Additionally, Tony de Zorzi surged 29 spots to 85th place after his impressive 78 in the first innings. In the latest Test bowler rankings, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj made significant progress. With a total of 8 wickets in the series, Keshav Maharaj moved up seven positions to joint 21st place.
