Indian cricket fraternity lauds India U-19 team despite loss to Australia in ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup final

The Indian U-19 team suffered a comprehensive 79-run defeat against Australia in the Youth World Cup final held in Benoni on Sunday (February 11).

Having dominated the tournament by winning all six matches prior to the final, the Boys in Blue faced tough competition from Australia in the ultimate showdown, resulting in Australia securing their fourth ICC U-19 World Cup title.

In the pivotal final match, Australia set a target of 253/7 in their 50 overs after choosing to bat first. Harjas Singh top-scored with 55 runs, supported by contributions from Hugh Weibgen (48), Oliver Peake (46), and Harry Dixon (42).

Pacer Raj Limbani showcased an impressive performance for India, taking three wickets for 38 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

India’s response faltered as their innings concluded at 174 runs in 43.5 overs. The batting display lacked vigor, with most wickets falling for single-digit scores. Adarsh Singh emerged as the top scorer with 47 runs.

Mahli Beardman (3-15) and Raf MacMilllan (3-43) claimed three wickets each for Australia, while Callum Vidler secured a couple of scalps.

Although India couldn’t secure the title, the tournament unveiled promising talents such as Uday Saharan, Musheer Khan, and Sachin Dhas, who hold potential for the future of Indian cricket.

Despite the final loss, the Indian U-19 team received praise from various members of the Indian cricket community, including Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma.
