IND v AFG 2024: “It’s challenging to satisfy everyone,” says Rohit Sharma regarding the T20 World Cup selection dilemma.
India’s Captain Rohit Sharma provided a glimpse into the process of team selection for the imminent ICC T20 World Cup 2024, expressing the challenge of ensuring universal satisfaction among the players. This insight followed Team India’s intense triumph over Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I in Bengaluru.
Rohit emerged as the standout player in the exhilarating match, achieving a remarkable fifth T20I century against Afghanistan. Post the game, Rohit elaborated on the intricacies of selecting the squad for the approaching T20 World Cup in 2024, emphasizing the need for clear communication and understanding within the team.
Following the decisive 3-0 victory in the T20I series, the Indian captain disclosed that the team has yet to finalize its roster for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies.
Captain Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation: “We have not finalized the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds. So, we will make our combinations according to the conditions. In the West Indies, the conditions are slow, so we’ll have to pick our team accordingly. As far as Rahul Dravid and I are concerned, we’ve tried to maintain clarity. We try to tell them why they’ve been selected or not been selected even after putting in performances.”
Rohit signed off by saying, “You can’t keep everyone happy, that is what I’ve learnt in my time as captain. You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy. The four players sitting on the bench also ask why they’re not playing. I’ve learnt that you can’t keep everyone happy, and the focus should be on the team’s goal.”
Significantly, India is set to face England in a five-match Test series commencing on January 25 in Hyderabad.
