“Everything is fake”- Rohit Sharma on reports of his meeting with Dravid and Agarkar for T20 World Cup 2024

India captain Rohit Sharma dismissed rumors of meeting with head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar to discuss the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Consequently, speculation about Virat Kohli being asked to open for India appears unfounded.

Media reports had suggested that the trio convened in Mumbai last week to deliberate on India’s T20 World Cup squad selection, with Virat Kohli purportedly slated to open the innings for the biennial event. Furthermore, it was speculated that Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in the squad hinged on his bowling contribution.

Additionally, doubts were raised about the inclusion of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad, while Shivam Dube’s impressive batting performances for CSK suggested he might secure a place in the 15-member squad.

During an appearance on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, Rohit Sharma refuted questions about India’s T20 World Cup squad makeup and the alleged meeting, stating that he had not met anyone as rumored.

Rohit expressed his views during an episode of the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.

He emphasized that unless information originates directly from him, Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar, or an official BCCI representative speaking on camera, it should be considered unreliable.

The deadline for submitting a preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup is May 1. Teams have until May 25 to make adjustments to the squad, with the tournament commencing on June 1. India’s first match is scheduled against Ireland on June 5.
