CWC 2023: Glenn Maxwell Unavailable for England Match Due to Concussion from Golf Incident

Australia has faced a significant setback ahead of their upcoming CWC 2023 match against England as all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the fixture due to a concussion he sustained in a golf-related incident on Monday, October 30.

The highly-anticipated clash is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad on November 4. Although there are still three days until the game, Maxwell will be following concussion protocols for a period of six to eight days.

According to reports from ESPNCricinfo, Maxwell was holding onto a golf cart on his way back from the clubhouse to the team bus when he lost his grip, leading to his concussion.

In Maxwell’s absence, there is a likelihood that either Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green will be included in the playing XI, while Marnus Labuschagne is expected to maintain his place in the lineup.

Australia will feel the absence of Maxwell, who has been in exceptional form with the bat in this World Cup. Just last week, the dynamic right-handed batsman smashed the fastest century in World Cup history, achieving it in just 40 balls against the Netherlands in Delhi. Maxwell is also a valuable off-spinner, having claimed four wickets in this World Cup.

With eight points from six matches, Australia currently holds the fourth position on the points table, which features 10 teams. They need to secure at least two victories from their remaining three games to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
