BCCI hopes to get MS Dhoni’s help to convince Stephen Fleming for Indian head coach role- Report
The BCCI is reportedly seeking the assistance of MS Dhoni to persuade Stephen Fleming to consider the role of India’s head coach as the application deadline approaches.
Fleming, who has been with the Chennai Super Kings since the IPL’s inception in 2008 and has served as their head coach for many years, has led the team to five IPL titles and developed a strong relationship with Dhoni.
The BCCI hopes that this bond between Dhoni and Fleming will enable Dhoni to convince the New Zealander to take on the India coaching position. However, Fleming is reportedly hesitant due to the extensive travel required, with the contract running until 2027.
“Fleming hasn’t declined the offer. He has expressed concerns about the contract’s duration, which is not unusual. Even Rahul Dravid was initially reluctant but was eventually persuaded. It wouldn’t be surprising if the same happens with Fleming. And who better than MS Dhoni to handle this,” a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.
The source also mentioned, “Although approaching Dhoni during the IPL wasn’t appropriate, it might be worth trying now.”
Fleming currently coaches four T20 teams worldwide while still managing to spend time with his family. With CSK not making the IPL playoffs, the BCCI is hoping Dhoni can help them convince Fleming to accept the India coach role.
