“Already heard conversations in Indian dressing room”- Former Rahul Dravid excited about cricket in Olympics 2028

Former India head coach and captain Rahul Dravid shared his thoughts on cricket being included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He mentioned that players are excited about the sport being part of the Olympics and that conversations about this have already started in the Indian team dressing room.

Dravid, who recently led India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 in Paris, participated in a panel discussion themed ‘Cricket at the Olympics: Dawn of a New Era.’ He expressed that the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics is generating excitement among players, who are eager to compete for a gold medal and experience the Olympic Games.

“I’ve already heard a few conversations in the dressing room. People are talking about the 2026 T20 World Cup, the ODI World Cup in 2027, and the Olympics in 2028. Players are looking forward to winning that gold medal, standing on the podium, and being part of the Games Village, interacting with athletes from various sports,” Dravid said.

He also noted that as the event approaches, teams will prepare seriously, scouting facilities and putting in their best efforts to compete.

During the discussion at India House, Dravid was joined by ICC CEO Geoff Allardice. Dravid reflected on the inspiration drawn from watching great athletes at the Olympics and expressed his dream of seeing Indian men and women win gold in cricket at the 2028 Olympics.

“Growing up watching the Olympics and witnessing great athletes like Carl Lewis win gold medals, you always aspire to be part of such prestigious events. The environment and energy are unparalleled — it’s a dream come true. I hope for a fantastic cricket tournament and that Indian teams can showcase their talent and passion, with Indian fans supporting them in LA,” Dravid said.

Although he joked about not being able to play, Dravid expressed his desire to be present at the LA Olympics in some capacity, even considering a media role.

The men’s and women’s cricket competitions will be held concurrently at the LA Olympics.
