Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan set to be appointed as Lucknow Super Giants mentor for upcoming season of IPL : Report
The official announcement is set to be made during a press conference in Kolkata on Wednesday, August 28.
According to sources cited by PTI, ‘Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the team mentor, with the formal announcement expected later today.’
Zaheer Khan’s new role fills the vacancy left by former opener Gautam Gambhir, who departed earlier this year to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and later became India’s head coach.
Zaheer previously served as the director of cricket for Mumbai Indians (MI) and later transitioned to the role of head of global development.
With the exit of South African legend Morne Morkel, who joined Gambhir on the Indian coaching staff, the Super Giants currently do not have a dedicated bowling coach.
Reports suggest that Zaheer will also contribute to scouting and player development for the Super Giants during the off-season.
Before transitioning to coaching, Zaheer had a distinguished IPL career, representing Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi-based teams. The left-arm pacer played in 100 matches over several seasons, taking 102 wickets with an economy rate of 7.58.
Zaheer Khan’s addition is expected to further strengthen LSG’s already impressive coaching lineup, which includes former Australian opener Justin Langer as head coach, with Lance Klusener and Adam Voges serving as assistant coach and consultant, respectively.
