In the wake of their defeat to Australia in the final of the ICC CWC 2023, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the team’s dressing room to offer words of encouragement.
Australia had comprehensively defeated India by six wickets, with Travis Head scoring a century to help chase down the target of 241 runs with ease. Earlier, India had been asked to bat first and had posted a total of 240 runs, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both scoring fifties.
Following the match, the Indian players were visibly dejected, with some even holding back tears. However, PM Modi’s visit to the dressing room provided a much-needed boost of morale.
“It happens,” PM Modi can be heard saying to the team in a video of the encounter. “Keep smiling, the country is looking up to you.”
PM Modi’s gesture of support was widely appreciated by the Indian cricket fraternity and fans alike.

He further demonstrated his unwavering support by holding their hands, conveying a message of encouragement and belief in their resilience.
