T20 World Cup 2024: Hardik Pandya Anticipates a “Nice Day” Ahead of India-Pakistan Clash

India’s vice-captain, Hardik Pandya, has expressed strong confidence in the bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah for the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

On June 5, India kicked off their campaign with an impressive eight-wicket victory over Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Hardik Pandya highlighted the team’s extensive experience, noting, “Within our group, we have 892 T20 games, which is a significant amount of experience. Especially in our bowling lineup, we have Jasprit Bumrah, the top-ranked bowler, and Mohammed Siraj, who has been exceptional in recent years,” he said in an interview with bcci.tv.

Pandya also praised Arshdeep Singh, stating, “Arshdeep has played in the last two World Cups and has been outstanding, continually improving his game.”

Pandya commended the bowling unit’s experience and integrity, adding that the pitch conditions were favorable on the day of the match.

After opting to bowl first, India restricted Ireland to 96 runs in 16 overs. Pandya himself took three wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs, while Bumrah (2/6 in 3 overs) and Arshdeep Singh (2/35 in 4 overs) each took two wickets. Akshar Patel (1/3 in 1 over) and Mohammed Siraj (1/13 in 3 overs) also contributed with a wicket each.

“We’re very pleased with our strong start. It’s crucial for maintaining momentum as the tournament progresses,” Pandya remarked. “It’s gratifying to see our hard work pay off, and it’s exciting to play here in America.”

India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour, noted that Pandya was ready to bowl four overs in a match, highlighting his commitment and resilience despite recent challenges.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Pandya said, “Hard work and self-belief are key. At 30, I’ve learned to identify my strengths and focus on honing my skills, which has been my priority.”

India’s next match is set against arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue on June 9, and Pandya is eagerly anticipating the contest.

“India-Pakistan matches are always thrilling, filled with emotion and excitement. We aim to stay disciplined and focused as a team,” Pandya stated. “Our goal is to perform well and secure a positive outcome.”
