India sent defending champions England packing in the second semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first after the toss was delayed due to rain and wet outfield.
Rohit Sharma took charge of the innings, as Virat Kohli’s horror run in the tournament continued. He was dismissed for 9 by Reece Topley and Rishabh Pant followed soon for 4 runs. But Rohit Sharma was joined by fellow Mumbaikar Suryakumar Yadav and both added 73 runs for the third wicket.
Rohit got out for 57 runs in 39 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav made 47 in 36 balls on a difficult pitch to bat on. Hardik Pandya (23), Ravindra Jadeja (17*), and Akshar Patel (10) powered India to an above-par total of 171/7 in 20 overs.
For England, Chris Jordan shined with 3/37.
In reply, Jos Buttler was in tremendous touch, as he raced to 23 in no time, but was dismissed by Akshar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah got rid of Phil Salt and then the Indian spinners Patel and Kuldeep Yadav rocked the England batting lineup.
Harry Brook with 25 and Jofra Archer with 21 tried their best, but India’s brilliant bowling and slowness of the pitch was too much as England was bundled out for 103 runs in 16.4 overs.
India won the match by 68 runs and stormed into the final, where they will clash with South Africa on Saturday, June 29. Akshar Patel was named the Player of the Match for his 3/23, while Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/12) starred as well.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the Indian team and congratulated them for qualifying for the final on social media.
Congratulations team India 🇮🇳 🤞💪 https://t.co/4TPltXHkyV
