Jay Shah announce former Indian player Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s next head coach

BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Tuesday, July 9, that Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Shah took to social media platform X to share this significant news, stating, “It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward.”

He added, “His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey.”

Gautam Gambhir will take over as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, succeeding Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory last month.

Gambhir, who guided Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title earlier this year, will start his coaching role during the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, VVS Laxman, head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is serving as the interim coach for India’s ongoing T20I tour of Zimbabwe.
