IPL 2024: Cricket fraternity lauds CSK as they hand KKR their first defeat; Jadeja, Ruturaj star

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) saw their undefeated streak in the IPL 2024 come to an end with a defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd match of the tournament at Chepauk. The game took place at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 8, 2024.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to field first. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Phil Salt on the first delivery of the match, KKR’s Sunil Narine (27) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24) provided a fiery start, accumulating 56 runs in 6 overs. However, once they departed, CSK’s bowling attack tightened its grip on the KKR batting lineup.

Shreyas Iyer (34) tried to stabilize the innings, but CSK’s bowlers kept the pressure on, limiting KKR to 137/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja were the standout performers for CSK, each securing three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with two dismissals.

In reply, Rachin Ravindra departed after a brisk knock of 15 runs, but Ruturaj Gaikwad held firm at one end, finishing unbeaten. Daryl Mitchell (25) and Shivam Dube (28) also made valuable contributions, but it was the unbeaten 67* from CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, embellished with 9 fours, that guided the team to victory in 17.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand.

Ravindra Jadeja received the Player of the Match award for his impressive performance, taking 3 wickets and claiming 2 catches.

KKR is scheduled to take on Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 14, while CSK will face Mumbai Indians (MI) on the same day in the evening fixture at Mumbai’s venue.

The cricket community applauded the commendable efforts of CSK’s bowlers and batsmen, expressing their praise across various social media platforms.
