Bangladesh Unveils 15-Member Squad for Upcoming ODI World Cup; Senior Player Tamim Iqbal Not Included

In a surprising move that has caught the attention of cricket fans and pundits, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed the 15-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) World Cup, and it does not feature the experienced opening batsman and former captain, Tamim Iqbal.

This decision signals a significant change in the team’s composition and strategy as they prepare for the highly anticipated tournament.

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will continue to lead the side in the quadrennial event while Litton Das will perform the role of a vice-captain.

Another senior player Tamim Iqbal, who shocked the cricketing by reversing his retirement decision in July, wasn’t included in the World Cup squad.

While the southpaw didn’t feature in the Asia Cup 2023 due to a back injury, he regained fitness and took part in the recently held One Day International series against New Zealand at home. Therefore, his absence from the World Cup squad raised a lot of eyebrows.

Ebadot Hossain wasn’t considered for selection as the right-arm quick failed to recover from a knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan in July.

Despite Tamim’s absence, Bangladesh’s batting line-up features experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das and Shakib.

Bangladesh’s spin bowling department looks quite strong with the presence of Shakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan.

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman will lead the pace bowling group, also featuring Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan.
