“I am intrigued,” expressed Justin Langer, indicating his interest in potentially taking over from Rahul Dravid as the next head coach of the Indian cricket team
The BCCI announced fresh applications for the position of head coach for the senior Indian men’s team on Monday (May 13).
Rahul Dravid currently holds the position of chief coach, with his tenure set to conclude after the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA next month.
There are indications from various sources that Dravid may not re-apply for the position, potentially leading to the appointment of a new coach after the T20 World Cup 2024.
One potential contender for the role is former Australia coach Justin Langer, who currently serves as the head coach for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2024.
Langer expressed his interest in the Indian coaching role in an interview with TOI, stating that while he had never previously considered it, he is intrigued by the prospect due to the talent pool in India.
He also discussed the challenges and pressures of coaching an international team, drawing from his own experiences transitioning from player to coach.
Langer previously served as the head coach of the Australia men’s team for almost four years, during which they won the T20 World Cup in 2021 and retained the Ashes series twice.
