In the 25th match of IPL 2024, the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 11, 2024.

MI entered the match with a win under their belt, having previously suffered three consecutive losses in IPL 2024. Meanwhile, RCB had managed to secure just one victory out of the five matches they had played so far.

After winning the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya opted to field first. RCB encountered early setbacks, losing wickets cheaply, including those of Virat Kohli (3), Will Jacks (8), and Glenn Maxwell (0).

However, Faf du Plessis (61 with 4 fours and 3 sixes) and Rajat Patidar (50 with 4 sixes and 3 fours) orchestrated a significant partnership of 82 runs off 47 balls, steering RCB back into contention.

RCB concluded their innings with a flourish, courtesy of Dinesh Karthik’s blistering unbeaten knock of 53 runs from just 23 balls, which included 5 fours and 4 sixes. They posted a total of 196/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In the midst of RCB’s aggressive batting display, MI’s Jasprit Bumrah showcased his prowess by claiming a five-wicket haul, marking his second in IPL history. This achievement also placed him in elite company, as only the third Indian and fourth bowler overall to achieve two 5-wicket hauls in the IPL.

Bumrah’s impressive spell commenced with the dismissal of Virat Kohli and culminated with him taking the wickets of Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, Saurav Chauhan, and Vijaykumar Vyshak to complete his fifer. His figures stood at 5/21 in 4 overs, earning him the Purple Cap for most wickets in the tournament.

The cricketing community widely lauded MI’s bowling maestro Jasprit Bumrah across various social media platforms.
