As the cricketing world eagerly anticipates the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, the Indian cricket team faces tough decisions regarding its squad composition. Recent reports suggest that Sanju Samson, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, could find himself on the sidelines after a lackluster performance during the West Indies tour.
The team management is facing a dilemma, considering his inconsistent returns and the emergence of younger talents pushing for a spot in the squad.
the Indian team management provided consistent opportunities to Sanju Samson in the white-ball leg of the recently-concluded West Indies tour. However, Sanju Samson failed to make the most of the opportunities. In six innings, Sanju aggregated 92 runs, including a half-century in the third ODI.
Now, a report published in Times of India, quoting a source, claims that Sanju Samson could find himself out of India’s 15-member ODI squad for the Asia Cup, likely to be announced on August 20.
“Right now, the selectors are likely to only pick the Asia Cup team. The World Cup squad will mostly be picked later,” a source told the Times of India.
Even though Sanju Samson possesses an impressive One Day International average of 55.71 after 13 matches, his chances of selection are very low as KL Rahul is likely to return from injury while Ishan Kishan has proved himself as a decent keeper-batsman.
