Hardik Pandya Slams West Indies Board for Neglecting Basic Necessities: “We Don’t Ask for Luxury but…”
In recent developments, renowned Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has taken a firm stand against the West Indies cricket board, expressing his disappointment with the board’s failure to provide adequate basic necessities to players during their tours.
Hardik Pandya’s outspoken criticism has shed light on the challenges faced by cricket players and the importance of player welfare and support systems within cricket boards.
The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies on Caribbean soil came to an end on Tuesday, with the former thrashing the latter by 200 runs to clinch the series 2-1.
The Indian team outplayed the hosts in the series decider in Trinidad. Asked to bat first, the Indian team racked up a mammoth 351/5 on the board and then bundled out the Caribbean team for a paltry 151 in 35.3 overs.
After a cricket series in the West Indies, Hardik Pandya spoke passionately about the difficulties he and his teammates encountered during their tour. Despite their dedication to the sport and representing their country, the lack of proper facilities, subpar accommodations, and limited access to essential resources posed significant challenges for the players.
“We don’t ask for luxury but…,” Pandya emphasized, drawing attention to the reasonable expectations of athletes to have access to basic necessities that enable them to perform at their best. As professional athletes, cricketers dedicate their lives to the sport, and it is crucial for cricket boards to provide a conducive environment that fosters growth and enhances performance.
“This was one of the nicest grounds we have played. Things can be better when we come to West Indies next time. For things like travel, hopefully, the West Indies cricket board can take note and ensure that there are no hiccups. We don’t ask for luxury but we need some basic necessities taken care of. [On Rohit Sharma’s part in the series win] Rohit Sharma can have the full (trophy),” Hardik Pandya said at the presentation ceremony.
