IPL 2024: ‘We will work with Indian government’- IPL chairman reveals tentative start date of IPL 17
Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal discussed the commencement date of the IPL 2024, acknowledging that the 17th edition of the tournament coincides with the general elections in the country. He affirmed that the tournament would indeed occur in India.
Furthermore, Dhumal emphasized the board’s intention to collaborate with the government and other relevant entities prior to settling on the schedule. He reiterated that the fixture list would be released only subsequent to the confirmation of the general elections’ dates by the election commission.
“We will work with the Indian government, and agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way,” Arun Dhumal told IANS.
When questioned about a possible start date for the IPL, he responded, “The IPL is expected to commence towards the end of March… and since the general elections are scheduled for April, we will coordinate with the government to address this.”
The IPL 2024 is slated to host a total of 74 matches involving the ten franchises. There’s a possibility of the tournament being divided into two phases due to its overlap with India’s general elections.
