IND v ENG 2024: Shubman Gill to not take the field on Day 4 of Visakhapatnam Test; BCCI shares update
India opener Shubman Gill will not participate in the proceedings on Day 4 of the ongoing second Test against England in Vizag.
As per the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the BCCI stated that Gill sustained an injury to his right index finger during England’s first innings while fielding. Consequently, he will be unable to join the team on the field on Monday, February 5th.
Significantly, Shubman Gill thrived under immense pressure, silencing his critics with a resilient century on Day 3 of the second Test against England.
Markedly, this marked Gill’s third century in Test cricket, and notably, his first at the No. 3 position. Prior to this remarkable innings, the right-hander had not achieved a fifty at the one-down spot, leading to doubts about his place in the side.
Yet, Shubman rose to the challenge when India needed him most during their second innings, registering 104 runs off 147 balls, featuring 11 fours and 2 sixes. His innings played a pivotal role in setting a formidable target of 399 for the visitors as the hosts reached a total of 255.
Following the conclusion of the third day’s play, Gill expressed his satisfaction at breaking his lean patch but acknowledged that he could have done even better.
Regrettably, the 24-year-old lost his wicket while attempting a reverse sweep against off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.
“Definitely very pleased but I left a bit out there, to be honest,” Shubman told JioCinema.
