BCCI Announces India’s Squad for Upcoming T20I Series Against Australia; Suryakumar Yadav named captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (November 20) unveiled India’s 15-member squad for the five-match T20I series against Australia, scheduled to commence on November 23 in Visakhapatnam.

Suryakumar Yadav has been entrusted with the captaincy responsibilities for the T20I series due to Hardik Pandya’s ongoing recovery from an ankle injury sustained during the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh last month.

Apart from Surya, Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are the two other World Cup squad members included in the T20Is against Australia.

Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh have retained their places in the T20I squad. Jitesh Sharma has been named the designated wicketkeeper-batter in the team.

Ravi Bishnoi will spearhead the spin department, with Washington Sundar and Axar Patel providing support as spin all-rounders.

Prasidh Krishna will lead the pace attack, which also includes Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan.

While Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy for the first three matches, Shreyas Iyer will join the squad as vice-captain for the final two T20Is.

The T20I series against Australia presents an opportunity for India to build on their recent successes and further strengthen their position as a dominant force in the shortest format of the game.

India’s squad: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Akshar Patel, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar
