T20 WC 24 Champion captain Rohit Sharma offered to reduce his prize money before Rahul Dravid to ensure support staff got more reward- Report

India captain Rohit Sharma’s generous gesture towards the Indian team support staff has been revealed. After Rahul Dravid declined to take his bonus money and ensured the coaching staff received equal prize money for winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma also displayed his altruism.

Dravid’s decision meant that batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip each received INR 2.5 crore.

Both Captain Rohit and Coach Dravid were initially set to receive INR 5 crore each from the INR 125 crore prize money awarded to the Indian squad. While Dravid’s act of sharing his bonus was widely praised, Rohit’s generosity played a crucial role as well.

The prize money announcement on July 1 raised some concerns about the distribution, as the initial breakdown suggested that certain support staff members, such as the throwdown specialist, analysts, masseuse, and physio, would receive significantly less.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, a player mentioned that on the flight back from Barbados to India, Rohit expressed his willingness to forgo some of his bonus to ensure that everyone on the support staff was paid fairly.

Thanks to Rohit’s intervention, the rest of the support staff, including strength and conditioning coaches, physios, and analysts, received INR 2 crore each. This act highlighted Rohit’s leadership qualities and his commitment to recognizing the contributions of everyone involved in the team’s success.
