T20 World Cup 2024: Six Indians named in ICC’s ‘Team of the Tournament’; No place for Virat Kohli
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed its ‘Team of the Tournament’ for the recently concluded T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
The Indian cricket team, which triumphed over South Africa in the final to claim the title, had six players selected for the team. Interestingly, no South African players were included in the XI.
For India, captain Rohit Sharma was featured prominently at the top of the order due to his explosive batting performance throughout the tournament, while dynamic middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav was also included.
India’s fast bowling pair, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, earned spots in the team alongside all-rounders Akshar Patel and Hardik Pandya, highlighting their impressive contributions during the campaign.
Despite winning the Player-of-the-Match award in the final, star batsman Virat Kohli was not included in the team of the tournament.
Afghanistan, following a historic semi-final finish, had three players selected: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran rounded out the XI. Although no South African players were named in the main XI, fast bowler Anrich Nortje was designated as the 12th man.
