Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten says there’s no unity in Pakistan team after T20 WC exit; Harbhajan Singh asks him to come back to Indian team
Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten made notable comments following the Babar Azam-led team’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 during the group stage.
Pakistan faced defeats against the USA and India in their initial matches. Although they managed to secure a win against Canada in their third match, they relied on Ireland to beat the USA to advance to the Super 8s. However, the Ireland vs. USA match in Florida was washed out, resulting in Pakistan’s elimination, with the USA and India moving forward to the next stage.
According to a Geo News report, Kirsten remarked on the lack of unity within the team, stating he had “never seen such a situation” in his extensive coaching career.
“There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team. They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation,” Kirsten was quoted as saying.
In reaction to Kirsten’s remarks, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh encouraged Kirsten to return to coaching India instead of continuing with Pakistan. Harbhajan expressed his admiration for Kirsten, highlighting his success as the coach of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team.
“Don’t waste your time there, Gary. Come back to coach Team India. Gary Kirsten is one of the rare, great coaches, mentors, and honest individuals, and a dear friend to all in our 2011 team. Our winning coach of the 2011 World Cup. Special man Gary @Gary_Kirsten,” Harbhajan posted on X.
